  Unfortunately, most of the elders were blue collar workers, some who just barely graduated highschool. There were a couple of exceptions, but they all stepped down. It seems like the ones who like the power of being an elder are often powerless in the real world.

  There were a couple of men from South Africa in different cong. I attended. These ones were very intelligent, but seemed to stay to themselves and not get involved in pushing ahead for "priveleges".

  I think it probably has more to do with being a company man than it does intelligence or class, as far as promotions in the borg. go.

  as everyone knows, jehovahs witnesses believe that the entire antediluvian world was vegetarian.

  they hold that this was gods original purpose and further believe that the restoration prophecies (isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25) foretell a future return to this state.. for the most part, jw publications have (wisely) avoided discussing the specifics of this belief, but one notable exception to this rule was the article "when all nature will be in harmony" which appeared in the october 8, 1982 issue of awake!.

  this article basically asserted that predation is simply a learned behavior that is connected to the fall of man in some unspecified way.

  TD,

  Good example! I was watching a show about the coral reefs and how each creature fills a niche. There are so many different ones placed to be food and others to be predators. It all works together and how would man's fall affect the vast oceans?

  Should Christians be involved in politics?

  religions that say they are the sole true path to salvation need to concentrate on their unique points to prove they alone are acceptable to god.

  for this reason jws seem to use the point that they do not get involved in politics as proof that they are special.

  in the old testament there are a number of examples of followers of jehovah being involved in politics, so obviously it can't be that bad.

  The Jewish government was a theocracy. So everyone participated to a certain extent, as it was also the only religion/government. In the 1st century, the Jews were under the control of the Romans. So, obviously, they were not involved in that goverenment.

  That does not exclude being involved in modern day governments. Garybus is correct when he says it is much like the fiasco they have created with the blood issue. The Witnesses are very much involved in government by trying to change the laws. They certainly don't lack for a legal department now do they?

  And as someone pointed out, it is not evil to work together to provide good schools, roads, hospitals, etc.

  i was going to ask in the suggestion box if a forum for new posters who still believed in god and the bible could be formed here.

  then it dawned on me that most probably the owner of this discussion board and most posters here would be opposed to that idea.. please, be honest.

  would you rather those who believed in the bible and believed in the creator did not post here?

  You can post about Christian beliefs, but it is hard to avoid a wide range of responses. If you only want christians to respond, then that might be a problem.

  I really enjoyed some of your earlier posts, so I hope you choose to stay. Your viewpoints are valuable.

  i was watching the new show on the discovery channel, they had 2 episodes on back to back.

  i can't believe the photography that they come up with.

  the world of the oceans is facinating, so many things i have never seen or imagined.

  It is just so obvious that the whole reef system is set up to be dependent on each species,. They all have a niche to fill.

  They interviewed the photographers and producer in one show and they said the photographers were often in danger from the marine life, but so far, so good. They showed how they shot the scenes-very interesting.

  Sounds like a rough neighborhood. Even a 5 year old knows what a real knife is. Poor kids don't sound like they are getting a good start in life.

  I find it hard to believe they care much about most of the posters, maybe the ones who leak secret info from them or those that are still in and holding a position such as an elder.

  I don't think they would give me a second glance.

  Many of God's favored ones, in both the new and old testaments, held military and political offices. So the watchtower doesn't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to holding political office or voting. Even working to persuade politicians to vote on bills that would improve the quality of life for people, is an honorable cause.

  They like to say Jesus was not political, but I think if you asked the people back then, they might offer a different view. He very much comented on political issues of his day and was put to death for what they considered sedition.
